Yvette began playing the violin while doing my International Baccalaureate diploma at St. Mary’s school and soon afterwards joined the school orchestra. This was when she officially fell in love with music. However, Yvette finally decided to stop running and become a career musician a little over 2 years ago.

She proclaims that, “Music is in my blood, it’s in my soul, and it’s in my spirit. I had to face myself and the person I was created to be.” When she landed to this realisation is when she joined the Kenya Conservatoire of Music where she began to take music classes on violin technique and also a bit of aural training, improvisation and composition. Yvette also joined the Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra where she currently plays. She mostly listen to classical music, afro beat and afro fusion.

Yvette who has attended a master class by “Quartetto Arqua” a quartet in Italy says she would like her sound to evolve and be similar to that of the Soweto String Quartet. She aspires to this goal as they fuse a more global African sound, borrowing from West, East and Southern Africa and grounded with a classical foundation.
