CAREER
George Mutinda a.k.a Joji Porgy has been a drummer for twelve years. In season 1 of Coke Studio Africa, he was a guest drummer. To return as the main drummer has allowed him to work with more songs and artists.
He has worked with several celebrated artistes including Seun Kuti, Grammy-Award winning neo soul singer Dwele and dancehall queen Alaine. In Kenya, he’s worked with Aaron Rimbui and in five seasons of Tusker Project Fame – flaunting his wealth of experience.
He was featured in Greatest Wonder – a gospel reggae album in 2003.
Won Best Drummer at Who’s Fooling Who by Drum Jam in 2008.
He has played at South Africa’s Jazz festival, Sauti Za Busara amongst festivals in Zanzibar. Has also toured Greece, Senegal and Uganda.
He is currently working with a band called Afro Sync and the group will release their debut album later in 2015.
His major influences started in church and he’s ended up being inspired by Jazz, Latin and afro pop sounds.

FUN FACTS
Before drums, he used to play bass guitar.
He studied graphic design because of his parents’ wish but all through his heart was in music.
Playing drums relaxes his brain and allows him to express feelings. He says it always makes him feel better, smile and laugh.
Because his normal demeanor is cheeky, people think that he is always joking but he asserts that he is a very serious guy.
