Betty G’s voice blends easily into any genre of music, and with her recent hit Yekelekilal, she is a rising star in Ethiopia. Her ability to sing in French, English and Amharic allows her to cross boundaries with her music. She is devoted to showcasing the richness of Ethiopia’s culture through her music projects, and makes her debut on Coke Studio Africa season 4 this year.
Betty G is currently working on a new album under the One Vision Production group while being mentored by fellow musicians Nhatty Man, Henock Negash and The Ras Band. She has been on tours around the world and has collaborated with international artistes including US jazz great Tomas Doncker.
Betty G is a conscious artiste who uses her music to create awareness on issues such as global warming. To champion this cause, she has collaborated with legendary Nigerian reggae artiste Ras Kimono. She is also currently the ambassador for Studio Samuel - a non-governmental organization that empowers women in Ethiopia to overcome poverty, and change their lives.
Betty G was born as Bruktwait Getahun in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She attended Lycee Gebre Mariam, a French High School, before joining the Commercial College of Addis Ababa and a French University, Universite de L”IAE Politier in 2009, where she earned a degree in Office Management and General Management. With a music career that started humbly during her school days, Betty G now shares the stage with several prominent Ethiopian artistes including Teddy Afro, Zeritu Kebede, Jhonny Raga and Natael Ayalew (Nhatty Man).
On Coke Studio Africa 4, Betty G will be collaborating with Cameroonian music group: X-Maleya, under the guidance of Nigerian producer Chopstix.
