DAMA DO BLING
Mozambican Dama Do Bling has been ranked severally as one of the best female hip hop artistes on the African continent. Her music sometimes stirs controversy, right from the release of her debut single Haterz, which set her up for musical success. On the third season of Coke Studio Africa, Dama was one of the artistes who collaborated with the season’s guest star - American R&B singer/songwriter and producer NE-YO - for the song Reason.
The 36-year-old firebrand started off her musical career by singing covers before taking the step to record her own music, which culminated in the 2006 release of her self-titled debut album. She has since released five albums. Her recognitions include several awards and nominations such as the MTV MAMAs and AFRIMMA Awards for Best Ragga and R&B Music Video respectively. She has shared the stage with several international acts including Keri Hilson, Florida and Sean Paul.
Dama’s musical journey has been influenced by hip hop greats such as Lil’ Kim, Da Brat, Queen Latifah and Snoop Dogg. On Coke Studio Africa 3, Dama collaborated with Nigerian rapper Ice Prince. Making her second appearance on the show’s fourth season this year, the spunky Miss Bling returns to collaborate with Tanzania’s beloved music duo: Navy Kenzo.
Dama Do Bling, who was born in Maputo, Mozambique, is both a career and family woman. The mother of two has set high standards in Mozambique’s music Industry and continues to shine as one of the most hardworking, and energetic entertainers on stage. Soon after launching her career in 2005, she cemented her fate by winning two categories at the 2007 Channel O Music Video Awards.
