Jaguar is an award-winning Kenyan musician, entrepreneur and philanthropist best known for his hit single Kigeugeu. His other popular releases include Kioo, Kipepeo and One Centimeter. Jaguar has an authentic Afro beat style and often fuses different music genres to keep his fans guessing. Jaguar’s fashion style is clean cut and he almost never has a scruffy day.
Jaguar has several awards in the bag. They include Best Male East in the East Africa Music Awards in 2011, Best Song Kenya at the Kisima Awards in 2012, Best Male Artist Pearl Music Awards Uganda 2012, Best Song East Africa Kilimanjaro Music Awards 2012, MCSK Awards’ highest Earner in Royalties, among others. Away from music, he is one of the directors at the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse as appointed by the Kenyan President.
Jaguar’s music career started gaining popularity soon after he joined East Africa’s music power house Ogopa Deejays in 2005, where he recorded and released several singles among them the monster hit Kigeugeu. Today, he records under Main Switch Studios founded by Philip Makanda, his producer at Ogopa. He continues to record singles and musical collaborations with crossover appeal.
Jaguar was born in a family of three, growing up in the suburbs of Nairobi. When he turned 11, Jaguar lost his mother who then was his only guardian, and he was forced to perform several odd jobs to earn a living – including work as a matatu tout (turn boy). He credits his success to completing school, hard work and support from his friends.
