Lij Michael aka Faf is a pioneer of hip hop music in Ethiopia. Aptly fusing the authentic Ethiopian sound with hip hop, Lij is representative of the vibrant new age Ethiopian music scene. Known for his unique style and exceptionally gripping performances, he prides himself in being a hip hop pioneer in the ever-changing face of Ethiopian music. He makes his debut on Coke Studio Africa Season 4, paired alongside one of East Africa’s fastest rising music groups – Tanzania’s Yamoto Band.
Sometimes only one big break can shove you into the world and change your life. In this case it was Lij’s 2007 debut single Arada Larada that launched his career onto the world stage, immediately granting him critical acclaim from fans and the media. Within three months of its release, the music video surpassed 300,000 views on YouTube. Following on this success, Lij released his second single Zenach and his debut album Zaray Yehun Nege, further cementing his musical presence at home in Ethiopia, and beyond. His rich musical exploits continue to see him share the stage with various artistes from around the globe.
Lij has made an extraordinary mark in his native country as a hip hop artiste. He draws his inspiration from the legendary Ethiopian artistes he grew up listening to - his biggest influence being Bahru Kagne.
Lij Michael started a career in music as a performer in shows organized by higher learning institutions. He would later entertain crowds at many stages in his hometown as an MC first thanks to his dynamic talent. He later worked on building his stage name and act to become one of Ethiopia’s unique hip hop acts.
