Africa and the world were forced to pay homage when Stonebwoy was declared the 2015 BET Award Winner for Best International Act (Africa). Ever since he started his music career in 2013, the Ghanaian has been a regular feature at the Ghana Music Awards and Bass Awards, winning gongs several times for Artiste of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year. Cut from an impressive rock, this musician is celebrated for hits like Go Higher and the Pull Up remix featuring Patoranking. He makes his debut on Coke Studio Africa’s fourth season, in 2016, alongside Haile Roots from Ethiopia.

CAREER

Currently the CEO of Burniton Music Group, 28-year-old Stonebwoy has two albums under his belt. His first launch pad into music was orchestrated by Samini Music, where he dropped his debut album Grade 1 Album. Ghana quickly fell in love with his clear crisp sound and just two years later, in 2015, he signed up with VP Africa and released his sophomore album Necessary Evil.

Stonebwoy’s quiet power resonates easily in his music. His obvious confidence and conviction in his music is displayed in both singing and rap. He is undoubtedly among the hottest acts out of Ghana in the recent past.

BACKGROUND

Stonebwoy was born in 1988 as Livingstone Etse Satekla. He calls himself the King of Ashaiman, the area in South Ghana where he was born. He went to Methodist Secondary School, where he was in the same class with renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie. While in High School, Livingstone picked up the stage name Stonebwoy during cyphers. After school, he earned a University degree in marketing. He was persuaded to take part in a popular rap competition Kasahare Level on Ghana’s Adom FM, where he went up against Sarkodie himself. The rap battles got him signed on to Samini Music, and soon after, his debut single Climax featuring musician Samini, was released.
