Angolan artiste Anselmo Ralph is a living legend. With a music career spanning over a decade now, he continues to achieve imitable success with every new release and album. This music star has established an international sound and his music is well received beyond Angola. The MTV Africa Music Award winner in the Best Lusophone category makes his debut on this year’s Coke Studio Africa where he will be performing alongside South African award winning band Mi Casa.
THE LGEND’S SUCCESS STORY
Undoubtedly one of the most successful Angolan artistes, Anselmo has a number of albums under his belt. His debut album “Stories of Love” (2006) brought him to the spotlight and recognition from the fans. In the same year, he was named the Best RnB singer by South African Television Channel as well as Best Artist Africa at the MTV Europe Music Awards. He has gone on to release "The Last Stories of Love" (2007), "O Cupido" (2009), "A Dor Do Cupido"(2013), "O Melhor de Anselmo Ralph" (2014) and "Amor É Cego" (2016). He is widely celebrated in Angola and has been a coach at The Voice, Angola since 2014. In June 2015, Anselmo signed a global agreement with Sony Music Entertainment Spain which has positioned his brand and music to international heights.
His latest album marks a new approach and more proximity to the African market in terms of sonority and influenced by the demand for a new sound from the fans. Anselmo has toured and performed in Portugal, Holland, England, Mozambique, South Africa, Sao Tome and Principe, Brazil and Namibia.
BEHIND THE MUSIC
Anselmo Ralph was born in 1981 in Luanda where he attended elementary and high school. After living for some years in Madrid, his passion for music peaked and he became a big fan of Juan Luís Guerra. He moved to New York where he pursued his studies at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. It is here, that he joined a Latin rock'n'roll band before going back home. Anselmo put his focus on projects like the NGB (New Generation Band) in Angola with whom he recorded his first album before going solo. He continues to set the bar high and is now focused in establishing himself well in South America, Europe and the whole of Africa.
