Runtown from Nigeria currently stands tall as one of the most talented Afro Beat and Dancehall artistes to emerge from Africa. A maestro in the making, he has revolutionized the Afro Beat sound one track at a time taking it to a global audience. With massive hits like “Mad over You”, “For Life”, “Lagos to Kampala” with Wizkid and “Painkiller” featuring Sarkodie, Runtown is slowly showing his dominance in Africa. On Coke Studio Africa 2017, the musician brings his midas touch to the show alongside South Africa’s finest new age rapper Nasty C.
HOW HE CAME TO RUN THE TOWN
He came into the spotlight in 2014 following his collaboration with Davido on the hit “Gallardo”. This popular single propelled him from oblivion to super stardom and even won him an award for Best Collaboration of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (2014). Runtown released his debut album a year later, which sold out physical copies in less than three months after release. The album that featured global hits “Banger” featuring Uhuru and “Bend Down Pause” featuring Wizkid and Walshy Fire was released under his record label Eric Manny Entertainment. A remix of “Bend Down Pause” was done by one of the biggest soca music artistes from the Caribbean, Machel Montano who pushed the song into the mainstream Caribbean music charts and making it a hit across several Caribbean Islands.
A ONE-NIGHT SUCCESS STORY
Runtown held his first ever solo sold out concert in Lagos, Nigeria dubbed “One Night Only” in April 2017 and it was a huge success. He has also performed in Kenya, USA and the Cropover Festival in Barbados. His music has continuously topped charts on Trace and SoundCity TV and made waves all around Africa, making him a superstar with an active fan base in virtually every country on the continent.
