WHO IS SLAPDEE?

Mwila ‘Slapdee’ Musonda is a Zambian Hip Hop artist known for his intuitive understanding of music and the posh tastes of listeners. He is a Hip Hop powerhouse in Zambia, Southern Africa and beyond. His career started in 2006 when he recorded his first hit single “Asembe Sembe Isebenza” – which led to him being discovered by promoter Eston Chilombo as a rising star.

The prolific artist has 5 albums under his belt – they include “Asembe Isebenza”, “So Che”, “Black na White”, “True Story” and “The Business”. The latest “Black & White II” will be dropping in the second quarter of 2017. Slapdee joins Coke Studio Africa this year to collaborate with South African songstress Busiswa.

THE TAKE OFF

Slapdee’s career catapulted when another promoter, Sync, signed him on and together they created his debut album “So Che” which slingshot the young rhyme-smith to national stardom. He is also a music engineer and mentors others music professionals. He produces a contemporary blend of Afro music with a modern urban beat that is signature in all his work. He has also produced for some of the most hip Zambian artistes including Mampi, JK, Hamooba, Dambisa and Ruff Kaida.

WHEN INSPIRATION MEETS RHYTHM

Through his music, Slapdee’s mission is to inspire a generation of youth that will actively move towards a definitive purpose in life in Africa. His music style incorporates modern rhythms with lyrical ingenuity. He has won several awards including Best Male Artist Contemporary at the Zambian Music Awards (2013), 9 Zambia Music Awards (ZMAs) and an MTV Africa Award for Regional Favourite Artist. He has been an ambassador for the MTV Staying Alive Campaign among other projects.

From a young age, Slapdee has always been a storyteller and his works are the embodiment of modern communication.
