Bisrat Surafel is an award-winning Ethiopian singer and songwriter known for tracks like “Yebet Sira”, “Godanaw” and “Atenekuat”. His musical journey has been a keen interest for many of his fans, especially since he spent 7 years working on his debut solo album Kal Bekal, which finally dropped in 2018. Bisrat makes his debut on Coke Studio Africa’s 2019 edition to collaborate with Kenyan singer Moji Shortbabaa – and they are paired with Kenyan producer Magic Mike.
Bisrat came to the fore in 2016 following the release of his mega hit “Weta Fikir”. With a growing fan base, he went on to release a collaborative album “Mengedegna” that preceded his solo debut. Bisrat has been nominated for numerous awards and has won Best Music Video at the 7th Leza Listener’s Choice Awards (2017), as well as Best New Artist at the Ethio Zodiac Award in the same year.
Growing up, Bisrat was influenced by legendary Ethiopian artists such as Tilahun Gessese, Mahmoud Ahmed, Tsegayu Eshetu and many more. His album preaches patriotism, love and unity and features respected Ethiopian artists such as Lij Michael and Jah Lude. He is also a talented songwriter and apart from writing his own tracks, has also penned music for other top Ethiopian artists.
Bisrat Surafel was born in a musical family in Ethiopia. At a young age, he took after his father and started writing songs, some of which became well-known hits across Ethiopia. His star continues to rise across Ethiopia and Africa.
