Tanzanian singer and songwriter Rayvanny is undoubtedly one of the top stars in Africa right now. Having won the coveted International Viewers Choice award in 2017 - it made him the only East African singer to clinch a BET Award. His super hits include Chombo, Zezeta, Kwetu, Mwanza featuring Diamond Platnumz, and Makulusa with DJ Maphorisa and DJ Buckz. In 2018, he featured on the remix of global hit Tip Toe by Jason Derulo, whom he met on Coke Studio Africa 2017 during the recording of the Global Music Fusion edition. In the 2019 edition of the show, Rayvanny makes a return to the screens paired with Kenyan hit maker Naiboi, and Tanzanian producer Lizer.
Rayvanny came to the limelight when still performing as an opening act for Tanzanian hip hop artist Madee. Under the management of Tip Top connection in collaboration with Mkubwa wa Wanawe music label and producer Babu Tale’s mentorship, Rayvanny steadily built his brand and gained professional musical training. He is currently signed on to one of the biggest labels in East Africa, Wasafi Classic (WCB). Releasing one hit song after another, Rayvanny has performed on a number of major platforms in Tanzania, including Serengeti Fiesta, Kilimanjaro Music Awards and CCM Presidential Campaign Tour (2010).
Following the massive success of Kwetu, which has over 7 Million views on YouTube, Rayvanny collaborated with top artists across the globe among them Diamond, DJ Maphorisa, Jason Derulo, Khaligraph Jones, Bahati and Queen Darleen. As a Bongo Flava artist authentic to his genre of music, Rayvanny’s catchy urban sound has won him a massive following.
Born Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa in 1993, Rayvanny developed an interest in music while still in school. He won the regional Serengeti Fiesta Freestyle competition in Mbeya in 2011, and proceeded to win the national competition that placed him right into his musical career path. It is from here that he got noticed by Tip Top connection who took him under their wing. And the rest is history.
