Coke Studio Africa Artists Win Big at Afrima Awards 2016

It was another grand celebration of African music at the 2016 AFRIMA Awards in Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, 6th November. Artists from season 4 of Coke Studio Africa; Falz, Flavour, Patoranking, Eddy Kenzo and the Henok & Mehari Brothers were among the top entertainers awarded at the ceremony.

The Revelation of the Year award went to Falz (Nigeria), who makes his debut on Coke Studio Africa this year, collaborating with Tanzanian rap king Joh Makini. He has recently released a new EP: Chemistry featuring another Coke Studio 4 Nigerian singer Simi.

No Kissing singer Patoranking (Nigeria), still flying high with his debut album: God Over Everything won the AFRIMA award for Best Artist Ragga & Dancehall. He also recently bagged an MTV Africa Music award for Song of the Year with My Woman My Everything. On Coke Studio, Patoranking is making tunes with Tanzanian pop princess Vanessa Mdee and Kenyan power vocalist Dela. The trio are produced by DJ Maphorisa from South Africa.

Sexy Rose hit maker Flavour (Nigeria) took home two AFRIMA awards for Best Artiste in African Contemporary and Best Male Artist Western Africa. On Coke Studio Africa this year he collaborates with Angolan king of swag Yuri da Cunha. While on a Coke Studio Africa Take Over Flavour revealed: “Music has improved me as a human being and made me more [receptive] to business. Now I am more open to opportunities and have exposure.”

Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo of the Sitya Loss fame bagged an AFRIMA for Best African Collaboration for the song Mbilo Mbilo featuring Niniola (Nigeria). On Coke Studio, he is paired with Ghanaian singer Efya, and together they are produced by Kenyan talent Madtraxx. Best Group African R&B went to Ethiopians Henok & Mehari Brothers. Henok, collaborates with Nigerian siren Cynthia Morgan on Coke Studio Africa 4.

 

Meanwhile, Coke Studio Africa 2 artist Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) made East Africa proud when he received the awards for Best Male East Africa and Song of the year for Utanipenda. Congratulations to all the winners! Cheers to another year of great African music.
